I prefer vegetarian food not due to religious sentiments-but to show sympathy and respect to all creatures in this world.One incident in my childhood which really motivated me to continue as a vegetarian is given below.
I have born in a traditional Nair family.My mother is a strict vegetarian,but father liked all foods-including Non vegetarian items.But as no one was there to prepare non vegetarian items in our house,the occasions for making the same was very rare.We had christian neighbours-one "Amanakarakkaran Mappila"(As we call him) used to come to our house.Occasionally the fish curry prepared by this christian family being given to us-for my father and other brothers.I have also tasted this fish curry in my childhood-and liked it!!!.In fact after tasting the fish curry I started asking for the same every day.Finally to escape from my disturbance my father once advised me like this."Why do you always ask for fish curry.That is prepared after killing the fish.The fish will have pain like you.You have many vegetarian food to eat.Then why should you kill and eat this fish?"
It really hurt me a lot.I have started thinking about sin and the pain experienced by the fish while catching.After that I remained as vegetarian till going to hostel for Pre-Degree and Engineering.Now also I can't eat any meant-but regarding fish occasionally for a change eat-but with a guilty feeling!!
I strongly believe that:-
1)All creatures have "ATMA".Your present life is due to the actions in your previous birth.Atma is like an energy.It will change body after death.Hence if you do good things in the present life you will born again in a better form.
2)Otherwise also human body is designed for vegetarian food.Why should you spoil your stomach by eating dead bodies of animals?
2)I strongly believe that vegetarianism plays an important role in your character and personality.If you can not avoid it at least reduce the consumption of animal body!!!
